About

We listen, act, and transform

Our History From a young age, I knew I was called to be a helping professional—but the journey to discover how best to serve took time, exploration, and heart. I began in education, hoping to make an impact on students’ lives. But I quickly realized that both children and educators were carrying emotional burdens that extended far beyond the classroom. I then transitioned into corporate America, helping individuals find financial freedom and stability. Yet again, I saw that financial challenges often masked deeper emotional struggles. Still searching for the right path, I eventually found my true calling in mental health. Holistic Approach to Mental Health took root in 2017 and officially became a realized dream in 2021. Along the way, I had the privilege of serving in diverse and meaningful roles, including: Graduate and teaching assistant at Texas Christian University School counselor intern at Hurst Junior High Family counselor at Child and Family Guidance Center Community-based counselor at Covenant Kids (foster care and adoption agency) Family Preservation Program Manager at the Dallas Juvenile Center Behavioral assessor in psychiatric emergency rooms, including John Peter Smith Hospital Each of these roles deepened my understanding of the complex challenges individuals and families face—and confirmed that mental health support must address the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. That realization became the foundation of Holistic Approach to Mental Health. Today, we are proud to offer compassionate, integrative, and trauma-informed care that helps people not only survive, but truly heal and thrive. Our Passion: At the core of Holistic Approach to Mental Health is a deep passion for helping others break through limitations and step into their full potential. Leah A. Ondiek, founder and Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, believes: “You will never know what’s on the other side unless you take a leap of faith. I did—and I’m forever grateful for those who believed in me before I could see it for myself.” This belief shapes every interaction at our practice. We understand that healing is personal, and transformation happens when clients feel seen, supported, and empowered. Our Promise to You: At Holistic Approach to Mental Health, we are more than a practice—we are a family. We use our unique gifts, training, and compassion to help make the world better, one person and one moment at a time. Ondiek is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor who believes deeply in the human capacity to heal—both from the inside out and the outside in—with the right tools and support. She earned her second master’s degree in Counseling from Texas Christian University in 2008, after completing a master’s in Educational Leadership from Emporia State University in Kansas. These include trauma, abuse, neglect, family mental illness, substance use, parental absence, bullying, immigration stress, discrimination, racism, natural disasters, and other significant life disruptions—what she refers to as “small T and Big T trauma.” Leah primarily works with adults aged 24 to 99, particularly those navigating young to middle adulthood. She offers support for individuals facing: PTSD and unresolved trauma Grief and loss ADHD and addiction Work-related stress and burnout Anxiety and depression Family and marital conflict Life transitions (e.g., young adults, widows/widowers, empty nesters) Generational immigration challenges Lack of peace of mind, body, and soul Driven by her interest in neuroscience and healing over the past 17 years, Leah has cultivated a holistic and integrative approach that includes: Mindfulness-based practices Family and couples holistic sessions Spirituality and nutritional awareness Somatic healing and body awareness Biofeedback and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Social engagement interventions She collaborates with psychiatric nurse practitioners at Holistic Approach to Mental Health and encourages complementary healing through massage, chiropractic care, spiritual practices, and yoga therapy. Leah is also expanding her work to support organizations through staff training in stress management, mindfulness, and emotional intelligence—helping employees understand and meet the evolving needs of their customers and clients. A lifelong learner who practices what she teaches, Leah enjoys spending time with her daughters and significant other, traveling, reading, and engaging in rejuvenating physical activities.
